
When a heater starts drifting on the line, you don’t just lose uptime—you lose yield. In glass processing, one hot zone running cool or uneven throws off tempering stress, lamination flow, and coating cure. The usual first move is guesswork. In tempering, high-current quartz or halogen short-wave lamps deliver the rapid, high-peak energy needed to surface-heat glass before quenching. For lamination and coating drying, medium-wave and NIR emitters give deeper penetration with tighter control over the thermal profile, which cuts bubbles and edge seal failure. Match watt density to the process: 1.5–3.0 kW/cm² for surface heating in tempering, 0.8–1.5 kW/cm² for lamination preheat, and voltage that lines up with the existing busbar and controller. Spec quartz tubes for high temperature stability, and confirm emissivity and reflector geometry so the thermal field stays uniform. Why this plays on the floor On tempering lines, uniform heating prevents thermal stress fractures and keeps optical distortion in spec. In lamination, controlled, even heat knocks out entrapment and strengthens the edge bond—less scrap. On coating lines, stable drying reduces pinholes and improves adhesion. You get predictable cycle times, fewer rejects, and lower energy use per square meter. Retrofit modules are built to drop into existing frames, so you can swap out a failed zone without reworking the whole oven. The details that bite you Installation is straightforward, but alignment is critical. A 1 mm offset can create a hot streak that shows up as optical distortion. Check power connections and cooling for the lamp holders—overheating at the terminals is a common failure point. Plan on 3,000–5,000 hours of lamp life in continuous duty, depending on power cycling and ambient temperature. Keep reflectors clean and watch for oxidation on terminals.
