Getting Them Into Your Smart Home
If you want to turn your heat on without getting off the couch, you’ll need to bridge the heater’s power to a gateway using Zigbee or Matter. It’s pretty straightforward. You use a smart switch or an IoT relay to act as the trigger. From there, you can just use an app or tell your voice assistant to do it. The gateway sends a quick signal, the relay clicks shut, and the heater jumps to full power immediately. And if you’re feeling fancy? Toss in a motion sensor or a temperature probe. That way, the heat just kicks in the moment you walk into the room.
A Few Things to Watch Out For
Here’s the catch: these heaters pull a lot of power. If you try to cram too many of them onto one tiny smart relay, you’re asking for trouble. You might blow a fuse or, worse, melt the relay contacts. To play it safe, we suggest putting a heavy-duty contactor between the smart switch and the heater. Let the contactor handle the heavy lifting, and let the smart switch just handle the “on/off” command. One last thing—keep an eye on those seals. If the gaskets wear out or you don’t seat the housing properly during install, moisture will find its way in. If water hits the electronics, your smart module is toast.Keep it tight, keep it dry.
