
Why Your Heater’s Wiring Keeps Failing (And How We Fix It)
If you’ve ever dealt with ceiling-mounted infrared heaters, you know they live in a brutal environment. The heat is intense. But the real trouble spot isn’t the heating element itself—it’s where the power wire actually connects to it. That’s where things usually go south. We’ve seen way too many units die because the insulation just gives up. It gets brittle, snaps, or the seal leaks. Then the air gets in, the internals oxidize, and before you know it, you’ve got a short circuit on your hands.
The reality of heat soak
Heat doesn’t just stay put; it travels. Even with the best reflectors, the connection point gets baked. Most standard industrial wiring relies on generic heat-shrink or some cheap silicone. The problem? That stuff can’t handle 200°C+ for long. Eventually, the insulation “carbons.” It basically turns into a conductor. That’s when your breakers start tripping—or worse, you’re looking at a fire hazard.
Doing it the right way
We do things a bit differently. Instead of just wrapping the wire and hoping for the best, we use a multi-stage potting compound and high-temp ceramic ferrules. The goal is simple: keep the electrical contact completely isolated from the air. If oxygen can’t touch the copper, it can’t oxidize. It comes down to the bond. A lot of “contractor-grade” heaters leave a tiny gap between the wire jacket and the housing. That’s an open invitation for dust and moisture to crawl inside the terminal. Our process creates a vacuum-tight seal that shuts the door on all that junk.
A word of caution
Here’s the catch: because the seal is so tight, you can’t really “field repair” this. If you accidentally nick the wire during installation, you can’t just strip it and twist it back together. Trying to fix a factory seal with electrical tape is a recipe for disaster. It might work for a bit, but it’ll likely burn out in a few hundred hours. The best bet? Get your wiring gauges right from the start. It keeps the junction cool and keeps the whole system running smooth.
