
Why Most Infrared Heaters Die in the Rain (And How We Fixed It)
If you’ve ever put a standard infrared heater in a damp environment, you know exactly how it goes. A bit of mist gets in, the circuitry shorts out, or the heating element just starts to rust away. It’s frustrating, and honestly, it’s a waste of money. We got tired of seeing that happen, so we built our heaters to be IP65-rated.
What does IP65 actually mean for you?
In plain English: it means the unit is totally dust-tight and can handle water jets hitting it from any angle without breaking a sweat. Most heaters fail at the cable glands—the spots where the wires enter the chassis. That’s the “weak link.” We solved this by using reinforced gaskets and seals that fit tight. No mist, no splashes, no surprises. Just a dry interior and a heater that actually works.
Dealing with the “Invisible” Enemy: Fog
Here is the tricky part: condensation. When a heater clicks on and off, the temperature swings. This creates dew points inside the casing. If that moisture lands on high-voltage parts, you get an “arc-over”—basically a tiny lightning bolt that fries the unit. To stop this, we used a sealed-chamber design. It keeps the humidity out so the electronics stay bone-dry. We also coated the outside in a corrosion-resistant finish. This means if you’re using industrial cleaners or working on a humid plant floor, the shell won’t pit or peel. It stays clean.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Now, there’s a trade-off. Because the unit is sealed tight to keep water out, it doesn’t “breathe” as well as an open-frame heater. Heat stays trapped around the internal electronics a bit longer. Because of that,**give the unit some breathing room.**Don’t cram it into a tight corner; leave enough clearance so the control board doesn’t overheat. And a quick word of advice on the install: the seal is only as good as the person wiring it. Please, use the IP-rated connectors we provide. If you decide to cut the cables and just wrap them in electrical tape, you’ve basically opened the door for water to get in. You’ll lose that IP65 protection and probably end up with a short circuit. Do it right, and these things will last for years in wash-down areas where a normal heater would be dead in a few months.
