They’re great for instant warmth, but the glare is brutal. Those standard halogen tubes pump out a ton of visible light and UV rays. It&amp;rsquo;s hard on the eyes—and if you&amp;rsquo;ve got a baby in the house, whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours, it&amp;rsquo;s actually a real concern.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;The trick to fixing this is all in the light.&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;We don&amp;rsquo;t just use a raw quartz tube. Instead, we use special coatings or filtered glass to block out that piercing blue light.&#xA;The heat—the part you actually want—still gets through. Your skin feels that cozy warmth, but your retinas aren&amp;rsquo;t taking a beating from a blinding white light. It&amp;rsquo;s a much softer experience.&#xA;But here&amp;rsquo;s the thing: you can&amp;rsquo;t just slap a dark filter on a lamp and call it a day.&#xA;Darker coatings soak up some of that heat. To make sure the floor actually stays warm, we have to use beefier filaments. This means the lamp draws more power. If you&amp;rsquo;re installing these in a home, just double-check your amperage. A lamp that protects your eyes usually needs a bit more juice than a cheap, blindingly bright one.&#xA;To smooth things out even more, we added a diffused reflector. It scatters the light so you don&amp;rsquo;t get those annoying &amp;ldquo;hot spots&amp;rdquo; hitting you in the face. It turns a harsh beam into a gentle glow.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;One quick tip for installation:&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;Make sure the housing has plenty of room to breathe. Since these filtered lamps work harder internally, the metal casing can get pretty hot. If the vents are blocked, the thermal cutout will trip and shut everything down.&#xA;Keep the airflow clear, and your heater will last a lot longer.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
